"Women's Health Space Is Not Doing Much Better Today Than 10 years Ago" (Marija Butkovic)

"Every man on this planet has one or more women within their immediate circle that they care about. And that's why they should care about women's health as well,"

said Marija Butkovic - founder and CEO of Women of Wearables (wearables, health tech & femtech) in an interview for Faces Of Digital Health Podcast about investments and trends in women's health.

Women's health is a multifaceted field that extends beyond reproductive concerns, encompassing mental, gynecological, and hormonal health. It is important to recognize the normalcy of stages like menopause and not treat them as diseases.

Challenge With Women’s Health Industry

The recognition of women's specific health issues can lead to a double-edged sword of increased attention and potential market exploitation, alongside risks of workplace discrimination, especially regarding age-related health stages such as menopause.

Achieving equality in healthcare means acknowledging women's specific health needs without causing disparity or neglect for men's health issues.

Funding Trends

Digital health funding has fallen significantly since 2020. However, funding for Femtech went from 7,6% inside the digital health investments in 2020 to 13,26% in 2022, according to TechCrunch.

Regardless, we're not doing well enough, Marija said.

Despite various initiatives, the situation for female entrepreneurs, particularly in securing funding, remains challenging and has not shown real progress, suggesting current efforts are insufficient.

A cultural shift is necessary to view women both as a valuable consumer demographic and as entrepreneurs with viable business opportunities.
